If you or someone you love is experiencing memory changes, you may feel uncertain about what comes next. You are not alone — and today, there are more treatment options than ever before.
At the Ayer Neuroscience Institute Memory Care Center, we offer both established therapies and new FDA-approved treatments designed specifically for early Alzheimer’s disease.
Medications
For many people, treatment begins with medications.
Common options include:
- Donepezil (Aricept®)
- Rivastigmine (Exelon®)
- Galantamine (Razadyne®)
- Memantine (Namenda®)
These medications can help support memory, attention and daily functioning. While they do not stop the disease, they may improve quality of life and help maintain independence for as long as possible.
Your provider will carefully review your health history and symptoms to determine which medication may be most helpful.
Amyloid-Targeting Therapy for Early Alzheimer’s
For individuals in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, new FDA-approved treatments are now available.
These anti-amyloid therapies are designed to remove amyloid — a protein that builds up in the brain and contributes to cognitive decline.
While not a cure, these treatments slow progression in people with:
- Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) due to Alzheimer’s disease
- Mild Alzheimer’s dementia
Treatment is given by IV infusion every two or four weeks, depending on the medication selected.
Because these therapies require careful screening and monitoring, our team performs a comprehensive evaluation before starting treatment and provides structured follow-up throughout the process.
Safety and Ongoing Monitoring
All Alzheimer’s medications — both traditional and newer therapies — require thoughtful oversight.
Anti-amyloid treatments, in particular, can carry risks such as brain swelling or small areas of bleeding. We use regular MRI monitoring and close follow-up visits to help ensure safety at every step.
Our goal is simple: provide the most advanced care available while keeping you informed, supported and confident in your treatment plan.
Personalized Care at Every Stage
Treatment is never one-size-fits-all. We work closely with patients and families to:
- Confirm diagnosis
- Review all available options
- Discuss benefits and risks
- Create an individualized care plan
As needs change, your care plan can change with you.
