Free Museum Admission in Hartford During Holiday Weekend
June 26, 2026
In honor of the nation’s upcoming semiquincentennial, the America 250 | CT Commission has announced a major community wellness and cultural initiative as part of Hartford Healthcare’s sponsorship of America 250 | Connecticut. From July 1–5, 2026, HHC will sponsor free admission to premier Hartford museums. As Connecticut commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States, Hartford HealthCare’s investment focuses on making both state history and healthy summer habits accessible to all residents.
Opening Doors to Connecticut History and Culture
To encourage residents and visitors to explore the rich history that shaped the nation, Hartford HealthCare is providing free general admission from Wednesday, July 1 through Sunday, July 5, at the following cultural institutions:
- Connecticut Museum of Culture and History
- Connecticut’s Old State House
- Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, which includes The Amistad Center for Art & Culture
- Connecticut Science Center
- Stowe Center for Literary Activism
- The Mark Twain House & Museum
- Real Art Ways
- Museum of Connecticut History at the Connecticut State Library
For operational hours and specific holiday programming, visitors are encouraged to check each museum’s official website.
“The America 250 commemoration is about looking back at our shared history while building a healthier, more equitable future,” said Jason Mancini, vice chair of America 250 | CT and executive director of CT Humanities. “By removing financial barriers to these incredible institutions over the Independence Day holiday, we are giving families a meaningful way to connect with Connecticut’s profound contributions to the American story.”
Protecting the Community at the America 250 Capital Commemoration
The celebration peaks on Saturday, July 4, at the Hartford Bonanza + America 250 Capital Commemoration in Bushnell Park. As the city hosts the state’s flagship July 4th event — featuring live music, food trucks, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and a spectacular fireworks display — this will be a can’t miss event.
Hartford HealthCare is sponsoring a free hydration station at the event, centrally located in Bushnell Park, with free water refills for all festival-goers.
“The America 250 commemoration in Connecticut offers a unique opportunity to celebrate our nation’s history while reflecting on the values that continue to guide and unite us,” said Jeff Flaks, President and CEO of Hartford HealthCare.
“For more than 200 years, Hartford HealthCare has served Connecticut communities through periods of tremendous change, progress, and challenge. As an organization rooted in service, education and innovation, we are proud to support efforts that encourage people to learn from our shared history, engage with one another, and help shape a stronger and healthier future for generations to come.”
